Thailand

95% are Buddhist, 4% Muslim and less than 1% Christian

Thailand, popular with tourists because of its natural beauty, friendly people and unique culture, has a population of 67 million of which 95% are Buddhist, 4% Muslim and less than 1% Christian. In spite of the small percentage of Christians, the country remains wide open to evangelism. Please pray for the many ethnic Thais and indigenous people groups who are yet unreached with the gospel.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THAILAND:

Teach English with Church Planting Team- Bangkok

The Take5 Church Plant Initiative will plant churches in unreached cities of Thailand, focusing on relationship building as the main method of evangelism- discipleship, and using a team structure. The Take5 team will be composed of at least five Thais and five native English speakers. Teams will start an English center as a way to build relationships with university students and others in the community, and form the core group of a new church. Each team member will have specific responsibilities for the English center and church. Evangelism through teaching English and building relationships has proven effective in Thailand, as university students are coming to Christ where most other evangelism methods have failed. The long-term goal of Take5 is to invest in each location for at least five years to establish the church, and to plant at least five locations.

Campus Ministry Team Member- Bangkok

We are looking for individuals and couples to join us as we launch a team to focus on reaching local University Campuses here in Bangkok Thailand. We are looking for flexible and passionate individuals/couples who want to see the millions of unreached university students come to know Christ. We are looking for individuals who would come and be a part of a team that is focused on seeing people come to know God. We want individuals to come and discover their purpose and flourish in an environment that is about growing together so we can reach the unreached people of Thailand and Southeast Asia. We are launching Chi Alpha ministries on one of the largest universities in the world. The University has over a half millions students and many of them are Buddhists who have little to no understanding of Christ. Bangkok is home to almost 20 millions individuals and almost half of these individuals are under the age of 35. On top of engaging and learning Thai culture you will be helping us with our campus ministries that will focus on small groups, language exchange (you teach English and they will teach you Thai), and worship services. Also, a portion of our work will be doing community development amongst the urban poor. We have a heart to see people walk into a full life on the mission field and want to see more missionaries come now than ever before. The need for new workers is growing by the day and missions needs you!!! If you have any questions or passions that are not centered on campus ministry feel free to contact us. We may be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction!

Study Abroad: Thailand- Spring Semester

The opportunities for harvest are great, but the workers are few, leading to our heart-cry at Asia Pacific Student Abroad Initiative, “Lord, send us workers for the harvest.” Thailand, a nation where less than 0.3% of the Thai people have a relationship with Jesus Christ, is crying out for a witness. What started in spring 2011 with five students from one university has now grown into a ministry with the capacity to accept 16 students per semester from any Assemblies of God college or university into a life-changing semester abroad experience. Based in Bangkok, Thailand, the Asia Pacific Student Abroad Initiative (APSAI) gives students from Assemblies of God universities the opportunity to continue their education while engaging in hands-on ministry in a different culture. At APSAI, university students, under the mentorship of experienced missionaries, will be connected to local Thailand Assemblies of God churches and relevant parachurch ministries. In teams of two or three, our students pioneer new works or join with ongoing works at their Thai church, working together to reach the people of Thailand for Christ. Ministry experiences range from teaching English, to slum ministry, to university outreach and other opportunities that engage the personal and spiritual gifts of our students. Through your commitment to a semester in Thailand, you will have a platform to be the only physical representation of Christ that many in this a majority-Buddhist minority-Muslim nation will ever see. The APSAI Spring semester is designed for ICS/Ministry majors or their equivalents and includes 9 to 12 credit hours of required on-the-field education, including two courses in language & culture plus one ICS course titled Apostolic Missioins in a Southeast Asian Context.

English Evangelism in Chiang Mai

In Chiang Mai, Thailand, there are two English Centers with conversational English classes for university students. The ministry emphasis is on building relationships with students and leading them to Christ. Weekly game nights and other activities with students help build close friendships. There are also weekly discussion groups for students who want to know more about Christ but aren’t ready to become Christians yet. Every month or so we conduct special outreach activities called, “Quest,” for students who are interested in Christianity. Through these activities we’ve been able to share the Gospel with students in a clear, easy-to-understand way, and many have come to Christ. We depend on native English-speaking volunteers to help us teach classes and spend time with our students. Please come join us for a month or more, to reach students for Christ in Chiang Mai!

Teacher (1 Year June –June)

We have a small, newly started international Christian school that uses homeschool materials to teach the children of missionaries from different countries who are serving in Udonthani, as well as children from the local community. Our main goal is to help children to have a true relationship with God and develop Christ-like character, while providing them a good education in English. We exist to facilitate the spread of the gospel in this very unreached part of Thailand by both enabling missionary families to serve in our area and to minister to local families. This school is a ministry of the International Christian Fellowship Church and you would be working as part of the team of workers of ICF.
